Billy Glidden (Gliddenracingengines.com) fresh off his 7.61 @ 189.73 mph blast in Super Street was set on kill for the NMRA event, but the other Super Street competitors were ready for him. As with any program electrical gremlins are the great equalizer. This left Bill without nitrous and shaking his head as he traveled the 1/4 mile in a yawning 8 seconds flat. The problem was discovered after two passes and it was straight to the top for Bill and crew as they grabbed the number one qualifying position and held off the rest on race day for the win. It just goes to show you, anyone can get beat at anytime. There was a big sigh of relief at Glidden camp when that race was over. Bill felt like he dodged a bullet for sure.
A quick hats off to Tom Payn who qualified number one at 11.767 @113.07 mph in his EFI car (we know he’s EFI, but he’s such a nice guy we thought he deserved a mention).
At the NMCA Shreveport race, wow of wows as Tony Christian qualified number one at 6.833 seconds in the Red Brick at 201.58 mph. Now talk about a final round battle, Bob Rieger really got a chance to show his driving ability as he and Tony pedaled, drove, kicked and scratched their way to the finish line. Now Tony is one heck of a driver, for Bob to come out on the winning end of that one shows determination, skill or just plain luck. Probably the former two of the three. You make your own luck with these monsters. That was a scary one. Thanks for the show guys.
Gary Rohe climbed straight to the top once again in EZ street. Every round of eliminations the BES powered engine surpassed 162 mph. These were not even ideal conditions…look out this fall. But look out Scott Budisalich comes into the final and he’s getting his program sorted out. The Budisalich mustang has now gone as fast as 8.76 so it could be anyone’s race. But Gary sticks with his tune up and the Rohe machine once again is the victor in the EZ street final. Good job on your final round appearance Scott. Thanks for using our products both of you.
Bruce LaGory rarely need the front tires on his car as the wheels are in the air most of the first part of the track. Lagory’s 69 Barracuda looked like a Super Stock car, pulling huge air and carrying the tires to the crowds delight. Bruce beat a fast reacting Mike Wear in the final and also claimed the Top qualifying spot as the Barracuda cleaned house in Shreveport. Man that car can really back half the track.
Special congrats to Phil Massuch (Pierce Racing Engines) for his track record at Spartan Speedway in Super Late Models. Phil was testing our Trans-AM reversed circuit design at Spartan and wiped out the 1/4 asphalt record by almost 2 tenths with “out of the box” jetting.
If you use our carburetors and would like to get a mention in our “In the News” column E us direct at [email protected] we’d be glad to post it here for you. Don’t forget to mention your engine builder and any sponsors you may have.
